Install Your eSIM
Step-by-step instructions for every device. Select your platform to get started.
Install at home on WiFi
eSIM installation requires a WiFi connection. You cannot do this using mobile data. Bookmark this page so you can return to it anytime.
Connect to WiFi
You must be on WiFi — installation is not possible over mobile data.
Open Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM
On some iOS versions this appears as "Add Data Plan" or "Add Mobile Plan".
Tap "Use QR Code" and scan
Point your camera at the QR code on your order confirmation page or email. Tap the banner when it appears on screen.
Tap Continue and wait
Do not exit the screen while activation is in progress — this can take 1–5 minutes.
Label your eSIM and set it as your data line
Give it a name like "Travel". When asked which line to use for Cellular Data, select your new eSIM.
Cannot scan the QR code?
In step 3, tap "Enter Details Manually". Enter the SM-DP+ Address and Activation Code from your order page.
APN settings
Most eSIMs configure this automatically. If data doesn't work after installation, check your order page — it will show if a manual APN value is needed.

eSIM & Travel
- 1Ensure your device is eSIM-compatible and unlocked (Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM).
- 2Restart your phone after scanning the QR code — this triggers network registration.
- 3Confirm you are within the eSIM's coverage area and the plan is active.
- 4If still not working, use the contact form on this page with your order number and device model.
Make sure you are connected to WiFi before starting. You cannot install an eSIM using mobile data.
Using the QR code (recommended)
- 1Go to Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM → Use QR Code.
- 2Scan the QR code from your order confirmation email or page.
- 3Tap Continue and wait while the eSIM activates — this can take a few minutes. Do not exit the process.
- 4Select Done when prompted, then choose a label for your new eSIM.
- 5Set your new eSIM as the line for Cellular Data.
Cannot scan the QR code? Enter manually
- 1Go to Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM → Use QR Code → Enter Details Manually.
- 2Enter the SM-DP+ Address (LPA) and Activation Code from your order confirmation.
- 3Tap Continue and wait for activation.
The exact wording may vary slightly depending on your iOS version, but the path is the same.
Steps vary by manufacturer. Make sure you are on WiFi before starting.
Samsung
- 1Go to Settings → Connections → SIM card manager.
- 2Tap Add mobile plan → Scan carrier QR code.
- 3Scan the QR code from your order confirmation, then tap Confirm.
Google Pixel
- 1Go to Settings → Network & internet → tap the + next to your SIM.
- 2Select Download a SIM instead? → Next.
- 3Scan the QR code, then tap Continue → Download/Activate.
Other Android (OnePlus, Xiaomi, etc.)
- 1Go to Settings → Mobile networks → Manage eSIM → Add eSIM.
- 2Select the option to scan a QR code and scan your order QR code.
- 3Wait for activation, then tap Done or Finish when prompted.
Your order confirmation page shows device-specific steps matched to your eSIM.
Complete all three steps before you board — your Canadian carrier can start charging roaming fees the moment your phone connects to a foreign network, even while still on the plane.
- 1Install your eSIM at home while on WiFi. You cannot install it using mobile data.
- 2Turn off your Canadian line entirely in Settings → Cellular → select your Canadian line → turn off 'Turn On This Line'. Do not rely on disabling data roaming alone — some charges can still apply.
- 3Do not use Airplane Mode. It disables your eSIM as well. Use your eSIM for all data abroad.
Use WhatsApp, FaceTime, or iMessage over your eSIM data to call and message — your contacts can still reach you. If you need a 2FA code, turn your Canadian line on briefly, receive the text, then turn it off again.
APN (Access Point Name) is a setting that tells your phone how to connect to the mobile data network. Most eSIMs configure this automatically — you don't need to do anything.
However, some plans require a manual APN. If your eSIM requires one, it will be shown on your order confirmation page under the installation steps.
To enter the APN manually:
iPhone: Settings → Cellular → select your eSIM → Cellular Data Network → enter the APN value in the APN field.
Android: Settings → Connections (or Network) → Mobile Networks → Access Point Names → add a new APN with the value provided.
If you are unsure whether your plan requires a manual APN, check your order confirmation page — it will clearly indicate if one is needed and what value to enter.
Yes, this is normal. When you install a Cellulo travel eSIM, it may appear under an unfamiliar label in your device's SIM settings (Settings → Cellular on iPhone, or Settings → SIM Manager on Android). This label comes from our eSIM provider and is not something Cellulo controls.
This does not affect performance — your eSIM is still active and working correctly.
To confirm it's your Cellulo eSIM, compare the ICCID on your order confirmation page with the ICCID listed for that eSIM in your device settings.
Each eSIM has a unique identifier called an ICCID. Comparing your order's ICCID with what's shown on your device is the most reliable way to confirm it's installed correctly.
Step 1 — Find your order ICCID
Open your order confirmation page and look under “How to check if your Cellulo eSIM is properly installed”.
Step 2 — Find it on your device
iPhone: Settings → General → About → scroll to ICCID
Android: Settings → About Phone → Status → ICCID
Either device: Open your dialer and type *#06#
If the numbers match, your eSIM is installed correctly. If you see multiple eSIMs listed, the one matching your order ICCID is your Cellulo eSIM.

Troubleshooting Guides
My eSIM isn't working
- Ensure your device is unlocked and eSIM-compatible (Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM).
- Restart your phone after scanning the QR code. This triggers the network registration.
- Confirm you are within the eSIM's coverage area and that the plan has been activated.
- If still not working, use the contact form on this page with your order number and device model.
I can't find plans for my province
- Click the province indicator (e.g., 'ON') in the top navigation bar and select your province.
- Refresh the plans page. The list will update to show carriers and pricing for your region.
- Some smaller provinces may have fewer plans. Use 'National' view to see all available plans across Canada.
I'm not receiving a confirmation email
- Check your spam/junk folder. Confirmation emails sometimes get filtered.
- Add our support address to your contacts to whitelist future emails.
- If you still don't see it within 15 minutes, use the contact form on this page with your name and order details.
Verifying your eSIM is installed correctly
- Open your order confirmation page and find your ICCID under 'How to check if your Cellulo eSIM is properly installed'.
- On iPhone: Settings → General → About → scroll to ICCID. On Android: Settings → About Phone → Status → ICCID.
- Or open your dialer and type *#06# — this shows your ICCID instantly on any device.
- Compare the number on your device to the one on your order page. If they match, your eSIM is installed correctly.
- If your eSIM appears under an unfamiliar label in your SIM settings, this is normal — the ICCID is the reliable way to confirm it's your Cellulo eSIM.
Configuring APN settings manually
- Check your order confirmation page first — it will clearly show whether a manual APN is required and what value to enter. Most eSIMs configure APN automatically.
- On iPhone: Settings → Cellular → select your travel eSIM → Cellular Data Network → enter the APN value in the APN field. Leave all other fields blank unless specified.
- On Android: Settings → Connections (or Network & internet) → Mobile Networks → Access Point Names → tap the + to add a new APN, enter the name and APN value, then save and select it.
- After saving, toggle your eSIM off and on (or restart your phone) to apply the new APN settings.
- If data still doesn't work after entering the APN, double-check the value on your order page — a single character error will prevent the connection.
